Was the Lockerbie Bomber Freed to Help BP Secure a Deal in Libya? That is the contention of an article in The Sunday Times of London. According to the article by Jason Allardyce, “Gordon Brown’s government made the decision after discussions between Libya and BP over a multi-million-pound oil exploration deal had hit difficulties. These were resolved soon afterwards.” If true, this should have very serious consequences for the alleged “special relationship” between the UK and the United States. Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, a Libyan intelligence officer, was the only person convicted in the bombing that killed 159 Americans on Pan Am Flight 103. He served 11.5 days for each person killed on that flight.
