With a growing amount of content (and traffic), I've decided to lighten up the site design a little.  More changes to come as I have time.

I have been reading the railroad historical volume Triumph VI by Charles Roberts and David Messer, a great Christmas gift from my mom and her boyfriend.  This volume details the years 1827-2003 in the epic struggle between the Baltimore and Ohio and the Pennsylvania Railroad.  One chapter is dedicated to the Northern Central Railroad, which at its height, ran from Canton through the Gunpowder River valleys straight through to Lake Ontario.

Well, we knew it would only be a matter of hours before the "blowback" on the Minnesota bridge collapse would start.  And now, just a mere 48 hours since the collapse, we are seeing it in two forms:

A.  The bridge collapse was the result of George W. Bush and the Iraq War.

B.  We need to raise taxes in Maryland because we have $40 billion in backlogged transportation projects.

Okay, so last night, I put a huge bag of bottles/plastic/cans out for recycling.  I mean big-- 55gallon drum liner size.  I noticed it hadn't been picked up until after 11.

Then around 12, lo and behold, I look down the road, and my neighbor's bag is still there.  Then comes Probst picking up bags.

Who in the heck steals recycling materials?

Bizarre...

Vicki Gribble, in a Letter To the Editor of the North County News paints north county residents with a pretty broad brush that I think is pretty unjustified.

There is a lot of heat, and very little light being shed in the battles over the news that Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. will purchase the Dow Jones Company (publishers of the Wall Street Journal).  The lefty socialists in Congress are all knicker-twisted over the alleged "consolidation" of media (funny-- they didn't screen when Viacom bought CBS or Disney bought ABC).  The unions at the Journal are worried about the editorial independence.  Everyone seems to have a dog in this fight.  (Mine is the hope that Murdoch drops the stupid paywall for articles!)

But I think there is another angle to this story that no one is catching.

Runaround Sue today made a factually false claim today (I know, big surprise).  Commenting on this post in his typical whiny, self-serving, testicular-deficient manner, Runaround Sue claims "80% of everything you post is about Joe Albero, from what I can tell".

Well, obviously Runaround Sue hasn't used either the "Archive By Month" or the "Archive by Category" features of this site to read much.  I did a quick little full text search of the posts, and I only come up with 11 posts (not including this one) out of 143.  That's less than 10%.  Let's figure my net needs to be widened, and I was off by a factor of 100%, and that is still less than 20% of my posts focused on Runaround Sue.

I possess neither infatuation or obsession for Runaround Sue.  I think he is actually a worthless little troll that has to contribute anything to the quality of life of the Lower Eastern Shore in particular or the world in general.  He operates in a world of half-truths, innuendo, and hype that would make the FUDsters at Microsoft proud.  He threatens people constantly with bogus claims of defamation, and often tosses veiled physical threats at folks.  I think he should be confronted when he violates the societal norms of reasonable debate -- like threatening to show naked pictures of Mike Dunn's wife to the public.  I think he should be confronted, and when necessary, shouted down.

When necessary, I will continue to do so.  Runaround Sue and his threats and his bullshit do not scare me.  And if he ever wants to join in a real battle of wits, he should come heavy.

The Calvert Street Communist Party Newsletter reports today that Charter school ruling could cost city millions.  Basically, the Maryland Court of Appeals, in a 7-2 ruling, held that "the money follows the child" in school funding case.  While this may hurt the school system budget in the short run, it may ultimately help the school system in the long run.

Runaround Sue often claims that sbynews.com is a "news" site, claiming that he is Salisbury's most unbiased and reliable news source.  But he is far from "unbiased" and "reliable".  News sites don't publish pure rumor and speculation.  News sites tend to confirm their sources.  News sites tend to at least check out both sides of a story-- even if they only publish one side of it.

Runaround Sue does none of these things.
