The UAW -- along with incredibly stupid management at the Old Detroit automakers -- is at the heart of the destruction of the domestic US auto industry.  This so-called union -- which exists not for the benefit of the hard-working autoworkers that pay its dues (often at the point of a figurative gun), but for the benefit of its six-figured leaders -- wastes millions and millions and millions of union-members' dues while crying poverty every year.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the National Retail Federation wants a piece of the stimulus teat, too, with plans to push President-Elect Obama offer a series of national sales tax holidays of ten days each in March, July, and October 2009.  In doing so, the National Retail Federation is pressing for a massive federal transfer of taxpayer monies that is stupid,short-sighted, and anti-Federalist.

As I documented in my post Tax Code and Social Dysfunction = Bad News,  in 2009, just about 47 million filers will not pay income tax.  By "not pay", I do not mean "will be exempt from withholding".  By "not pay", I mean that these tax filers will be due refunds from the Federal Government that will be paid out long after those taxes were paid.  Which raises the question: if they won't owe the tax in the first place, why are we witholding it?
