As usual, the drive-by media has totally missed a statement by Barack Obama that should worry many. Luckily, Powerline has picked up on it.  In a speech on July 2, Barack Obama stated:

We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.

Wow.  A civilian national security force that is just as "powerful" and just as "strong" and just as "well-funded".

Baltimore Sun reporter Kevin Rector has a touchy-feely article in the July 18th edition of the Calvert Street Communist Party Newsletter detailing how grief and remorse settled over a Baltimore County Courtroom in the case of Matthew David Miller, who pled guilty to one measly count of manslaughter in the hit-and-run murder of Kevin M. Ryan in October of 2007.

As I watched the meltdown of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac last week, I was reminded of the old adage that worst words you can hear in America are "I'm from the government and I'm here to help".

Why?  Because government is largely inept, incompetent, and unable.  Government could not plan a fart after lunch at Taco Bell .  And when government gets into areas that would be best left to the private sector, it's one disaster after another.

On Friday, Brian Griffiths decided I need a trip to the woodshed vis-a-vis my ideas on Campaign Finance Reform.  He decided that I struck out like the Mighty Casey.

I despise public corruption.  And while I am not a big fan of the death penalty, I do think that public officials -- elected and otherwise -- should be tarred, feathered, and run out of town on rail when found guilty of public malfeasance.

An article in today's Calvert Street Communist Party Newsletter sheds some serious light on the trend toward the "straight vegetable oil" fuel options.  It turns out that using vegetable oil in your diesel engine is illegal on both the State and Federal levels.

Foreign Policy magazine has a list of the worst places in the world to be a terrorist.  Missing from the list -- despite the protestations of John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama -- is Guantanamo Bay.

Sort of makes you wonder.

Over at Mahmoud Albero's cyberterrorism headquarters, he is all excited because the Powellville Volunteer Fire Departmet allowed him to pariticipate in a live fire training exercise.  There is just one problem:  they may have violated NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) Standard 1403: Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions.

TomCat points this out on his blog "A Class Act".
