Maryland's Light Rail is William Donald Schaefer's Great White Elephant that continues to fail. According to the Baltimore Sun, the MTA is closing light rail between North Ave and Hunt Valley, and restricting service south of North Ave to single car trains, due to even more problems with the wheels. When will anyone in Soddom on the Severn realize that a) there is nothing "light" in Light Rail and b) this project has been an abject failure from the beginning.

O'Guvnah is a big proponent of telling citizens where they should set their thermostats, how much they should drive, what types of cars they should drive, and how much electricity they should use. It would be really nice if O'Guvnah could get his act together and push his own agencies to follow some of that advice.

With just two days to go as I write this, I thought it was important to list out my endorsements for the 2008 Election. There is no doubt that this is probably the most important election of my lifetime, as we face some serious issues and challenges at both the state and national level. We have a clear choice to make. And while our options are not necessarily perfect, our chance to choose is.

UPDATE: I incorrectly stated Davis Ruark was a Republican in a previous version. Article now corrected.
In a move that is not wholly unexpected, States Attorneys Davis Ruark (Wicomico) and Scott Shellenberger (Baltimore County) have endorsed Frank Kratovil over Andy Harris for the seat in the 1st Congressional District. The latest endorsement -- part of a package endorsement by seventeen other States Attorneys in Maryland -- is a finger in the eye to Andy Harris' most prolific supporter, the convicted perjurer and woman beater I call Sebaceous Puss (aka Jihad Joe Albero).

I have one question about the state medevac crash that hasn't been answered yet (and god forbid the news reporters would ask it):
Why isn't the fuselage burned? In all the pictures, you don't see any scorching or charring. No burn spots on the ground. Given that a helicopter is largely a flying gas tank attached to a kitchen mixer, I would expect to see evidence of a fire from the avgas.
Why is there no such evidence?

Imagine my shock this afternoon when I went out for a quick cup of coffee downtown and found the most recent version of the Campus Connection Online featuring the headline "UMMS Misled State When Requesting Funds for Failed Ambulatory Care Center". As the state's flagship public health facility, UMMS is a key part of our state's healthcare system. With it's expansion to include not just the hospital downtown, but also the former Easton Memorial, Maryland General Hospital, Kernan, Mt. Washington Pediatric, and Chester River Health System, UMMS is a major player in the state. The fact that they may have misled the legislature is disturbing at best.

With Election Day just around the corner, I wanted to reiterate my position on the upcoming vote on the Constitutional Amendment to allow video slot machines at five locations around the state. My position has not changed since this post from April titled "Gambling the Future".

Brian Griffiths at Red Maryland does an excellent job pointing out the supreme fallacies of prevailing and living wage laws in the State of Maryland, and does a fair job of taking down the silly, childish claims of Secretary of Labor Tom Perez.
However, Brian left out a key reason for prevailing and living wage laws that goes back decades: prevailing and and living wage laws squeeze out cheaper competitors and limit competition. O'Guvnah is in favor of prevailing and living wage laws because he is a coporatist.

Well, the word is out, and the Democrats in Maryland are beginning to eat their young. The Special Session in November, and the regular session earlierthis year were spectacular failures. Given the opportunity to really and truly cut government spending the General Assembly really blew it.
