Remember how all those lefties jumped right and tried to blame George W. Bush for the collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis last year?
It was really kind of bizarre, since State Highway Departments have jurisdiction over bridge maintenance and repair on Interstate highways in their states. In fact, when it comes to the Interstate Highway System, the Federal Government really only has three roles: 1) banker to the states, 2) promulgator of standards, and 3) investigator of large accidents and mishaps.
Well it turns out that, according to the NTSB, the problem was design-related. There was a design flaw in the plates used in construction decades ago.
It's bad enough when a tragedy like this occurs. But when politicians try to use it to advantage to push their own agenda, that is despicable. Tar and feather, ride out of town on rail despicable.

Earlier today, in my explanation for why I would not vote for John McCain in the Primary, I made the point that until government gets less involved in our lives, you will never get money out of politics. The relationship is directly proportional: the more government interferes, the more people will coalesce into our organizations to lobby government ot either interfere less, or interfere more favorably.
The video game industry -- which is actually larger than the motion picture industry in the US -- is finally coming to that realization.

The word is out that O'Guvnah will have to relocate the offices of the Governor to the William Donald Schaefer Tower on St. Paul Street once the General Assembly session is over in April.
It turns out that the pipes in the State House need to be replaced. Plus, Senate President Mike ManPerm Miller wants to restore the old House Chamber. So, O'Guvnah needs a new place to think up all the new taxes and spending he wants for the 2009 Session.
But there is problem. O'Guvnah sold his house in Baltimore in order to move in to Government House on State Circle. So now, he'll need to commute back up I-97 to Baltimore every day.
Since we are on this new "energy conservation" kick here in Maryland, does that mean he will car pool with Mrs. O'Guvnah? Or will he drive a Prius? Do they come in a bulletproof model? Only Roscoe Bartlett knows...

What good is the GOP in Maryland? Typically, we would see the MD GOP acting as a real opposition party. If they had any coordination, you would see a "shadow" cabinet, real proposals to counter ridiculous budgets and tax increases, and strong opposition to the One Party Politburo that is the General Assembly.
Instead, it is far too go along, get along.

O'Guvnah has released his budget, and all I can do is mimic Gomer Pyle, USMC:
"Surprise, Surprise!"
It contains spending increases.

On Day 16, we turn our laser-like anger against O'Guvnah on his pledge to not raise tuition at University of Maryland system. In a year where we are facing massive tax increases, and where the legislature is poised to enact major budget "cuts" (which I have already identified not as cuts, but as slowing increases in spending), it seems to be awfully arrogant to say that college students should get a free pass on feeling a little pain.

The state of Maryland is working hard to become the largest (legal) voyeur in the state, beating the drums today in Soddom on the Severn for the expanded use of speed cameras. They of course, claim they want to "save lives", not "raise revenues".
Horse hockey. Bull shit. Tell me another one.

Being John McCain means you get to treat people like shit. Apparently, McCain-Feingold extends to our right to show displeasure with speechifying, self-indulgent men who suffer from LDS. From the beautiful and vivacious Miichelle Malkin, we learn that Senator John "My Best Friend is a Drunken Murderer" McCain threatened to cancel a speech today after he was nearly booed off the stage:
Sen. John McCain threatened Tuesday to cut short a speech to union leaders who booed his immigration views and later challenged his statements on organized labor and the Iraq war.
“If you like, I will leave,” McCain told the AFL-CIO’s Building and Construction Trades Department, pivoting briefly from the lectern. He returned to the microphone after the crowd quieted.
“OK, then please give me the courtesy I would give you.”
Secretary of State? Yes. I'd love for him to tell Iran where to shove it.
Secretary of Defense? Maybe.
President of the United States. Never.

It's Day 15 of O'Misery in O'Maryland, and the payoff begins with O'Guvnah's plans to combat the subprime crisis. Yes, I said payoff. Year One of the Irish Mafia's Regime in Annapolis was about consolidating power, and spending the state into a fiscal crisis.
Year Two is all about the payoff to the Dark Servants who put O'Guvnah in power.

The Wall Street Journal has an interesting article up about plans by head spymaster Mike McConnell to basically read and parse every bit and byte that crosses the Internet.
Why does government think it has or even needs this power?
