For someone who claims to be such a phenomenally successful businessman, Sebaceous Puss (our new nickname for Jihad Joe Albero) is really a dumb, ignorant chickenfracker. He's decided to go on a tirade against police officers using medical leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act. One would almost wonder how you can operate a business in this country living in such phenomenal ignorance of the law.
First, the FMLA has been the law of the land for fifteen damn years. Maybe this is why Sebaceous Puss can't operate businesses legally in Maryland anymore: his inability to follow the law is legion.
Second, the FMLA provides for 12 weeks of UNPAID leave for the birth and care of a newborn child of the employee. That's UNPAID LEAVE all of you Sebaceous Syncophants. The purpose is to guarante the employee will not lose their job for staying home to take care of a child.
Third, the entire point of the 12 weeks was centered around the fact that most daycare facilities will not take an infant under 3 months, and the growing prevalence of two-income families in the late 80s and early 90s placed an incredible burden on middle class families.
Fourth, the law is restricted to protecting eligible employees that work for employers who employ at least 50 people for 20 calendar days in a preceeding year. An eligible employee is not just any schmuck. To be covered under FMLA, you must have worked for the employer for 12 months; worked 1250 hours during those 12 months, and work for an employer that employees 50 people within 75 miles of the primary location.
In short: FMLA is not some big "gimme benefit". It is a tightly-regulated, tightly-wound law that gives some -- but not a lot -- of flexibility to employees who are trying to do nothing more than have babies.
Of course, it's probably a bit much for the self-absorbed Sebaceous Puss -- given his dramatic and outstanding business history (cough! cough!) -- to grasp this concept.
