I ventured on down to the land of Transchoptankia this Sunday for the annual Peninsula Regional Foundation Golf Classic. This is the second time I've participated.
The fun starts off Sunday night with a big party at Seacrets, courtesy of Leighton Moore (Chairman of the Board for the Foundation). I got to see some old friends and make some new ones. The only downside to the party is that my head is usually ringing from the loud rump-shaking music featured at Seacrets. I'm much more of a Gershwin/Glenn Miller/Country/Classic Rock guy. (Especially where Wild Turkey and good cigars are involved.) If I'm invited next year, I think I'll set up around the back side of the bar.
On Monday, we headed over to Glenn Riddle for a round of golf. My foursome include Louise from Becker-Morgan, my Uncle Doug, and WICO host Bill Reddish. We started the day off spending some money on some raffles, getting a great pullover with the classic logo, and a fine box lunch from the Market Street Inn. Rob ALWAYS does a great job catering things like this.
We played the Man-O-War course, and all agreed, it's a damn tough course. I've seen putt-putt greens with less bizarre layouts. I kept waiting to find one with a windmill or a big clown head. But it was fun. It was a great day for golf-- hot, but not scorching. There was also a lot of good conversation. The only problem I have is that my shots always slice right. I know, big surprise! I even had a shot that I am sure landed on Rt. 50. I didn't see any crashed cars, so I am pretty sure I didn't hit anyone.
Yes, it is true. I play Army Golf (left, right, left, right, left, right).
One tip to the Glenn Riddle "beer girls": the more often you hit my foursome, the more tips you get. Remember that for next year.
The round of golf was followed up with a fine supper at the Ruth's Chris at Glenn Riddle. One great thing about the bar at Glenn Riddle, they aren't shy on the Wild Turkey.
In case you haven't figured it out yet, Wild Turkey is the fuel of the Gunpowder Chronicle.
