I have to admit that I am slowly toward more actively supporting Senator John McCain in his bid to become President.  His pick of Sarah Palin was audacious and bold.  In my opinion, it was a finger right in the eye of the libtard Democrat Party.  If he let's "Palin be Palin" (in the words of Bill Kristol), he could end up winning a clear and convincing victory over Obamiden.

Why am I still holding back?  I still have some serious trust issues with the Senator.

When I say "trust", I am not talking about his character or his integrity.  No, I am not sure I trust him to advance many issues I consider essential in establishing a new conservative ruling majority in the United States.  And I don't trust him to go for the kill shot when its needed.  Finally, I don't trust some of the people he surrounds himself with.

Item #1:  Campaign Finance
I think McCain-Feingold is an abomination.  Hopefully, when McCain gets a few chunks taken out of his hindparts by 527 groups this fall, he will come to realize the tragic mistake it was.  What would I like to see?  Read my post "Fighting Public Corruption" from July 10, 2008.

Item #2:  Teddy Roosevelt
John McCain is a huge fan of Teddy Roosevelt.  That really creeps me out.  Roosevelt was a Progressive, part of the DNA of totalitarianism, facism, and modern liberalism where the state is mother, the state is father (my apologies to the PsyCorp of Babylon 5).  He has something in his DNA that all too often reaches for a big government solution (see campaign finance, McCain-Feingold).

I see big government as the problem, not the solution.  I am not convinced that John McCain shares that view or those values.

Item #3: Richard Armitage
The Libtards don't like to hear this, because it disagrees with their pre-conceptions, but Richard Armitage was the ONLY leaker in Plamegate, and he sat by for months while Peter Fitzgerald rummaged around in the West Wing trying to pin the leak on Vice President Cheney's Chief of Staff, Scooter Libby.  If anyone in the Bush administration tried to hang Valerie Plame out to dry, it was Dick Armitage.  But wait-- Armitage is no friend of W. or Cheney, and in fact, agrees more with Plame/Wilson on the view of the War than John McCain.

So why in the hell is he an advisor on McCain's campaign?

Item #4:  Juan Hernandez and Illegal Immigration
I completely and totally disagree with John "Amnesty" McCain on illegal immigration.  Yes, he is calling for border enforcement first, but I think that is just to salve the scars of conservatives from the immigration fight of 2007.

(For the record, I have zero problems with legal immigration. I think we should take every bright, smart, intelligent, or hard-working immigrant we can.  As long as they fill out the paperwork.  And then we can tax the hell out of them. Charge them a yearly registration fee, make them ineligible for things like the Earned Income Tax Credit, charge them higher base rates on income tax, etc.  Make immigration a profit center!  Why, because when you tax something, you get less of it!)

But what really gets me is why he continues to use Juan Hernandez as an advisor.  Hernandez is a La Raza/CASA attack dog.  He wants to re-establish Mexico as the government of the Southwest United States.  He wants the United States Government to do the job the hypocrites in the Mexican government won't do. He is a racialist, pure and simple.

And he is an embarrassment to the campaign.

Item #5:  "My Friends"
Yes, I hate this verbal tick of the Senator's.  Despise it all most as much as the Clinton finger wave, or the Bush half-cackle and eyebrow lift.  But what I hate even more is his tendency to be too polite to his opponents when he is in a knife fight.  Notice the "Gang of 14" deal over judicial nominations?  Senator McCain and others like him (Lindsey Graham, your pander office is calling!) got NOTHING out of that deal, exception preservation of "comity of the Senate".

Well, the Senator is now in a knife fight against two of those "colleagues".  Will he pull his punches, or will he fight to win, even when his opponents are his friends?  Senator McCain should keep in mind that there is nothing Joe Biden will not say or do to win.

And your other opponent sees nothing wrong with associating with and being mentored by two unrepentant terrorists -- Billy Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn.  Dorhn was enamored of Charles Manson, going to the point of saying the following:

Dig It. First they killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them, they even shoved a fork into a victim’s stomach! Wild!

That fork killed an unborn child, by the way.

These are the type of people that mentored Barack Obama in the rough-and-tumble world of Chicago politics.

The Senator better be prepared to strike for the throat, and not just slap on the wrist.

Conclusion
If Senator McCain can address these issues, I might become more comfortable in casting a vote for him. An Obama presidency scares me.  I'll admit that. It terrifies me.  And it is not because he is black.  It's because he is stupid.  But I am tired of having to vote  for the "lesser of two evils" every four years.

It remains to be seen if 2008 will change that.  I am waiting for the evidence.

To follow up on my Palin comments below: Now it is coming out that the McCain camp didnt properly vet Palin. The stories just keep coming out: She was recently a secessionist?!?!! We all joke about it, but would you actuallly join a movement for it? And then vote for someone who wants to be a secessionist?!!? What about voting for a candidate that cannot even properly vet his running mate?

I have said time and time again that "associates" of a candidate at a high level (not friends of Little Joey on the city council/county executive level) should not be held against them, so the above "advisors"/issues you have with McCain shouldnt really be held against McCain, but issues with the VP?!! That is COMPLETELY his choice and his JUDGEMENT. It is the example of the type of person he will surround himself with. It is indicative of the quality of governing we will get when his president. I was sooo down on Dems chances Thurs night. Didnt even see the Obama speech bc I wanted to temper my hopes. McCain blew it. He took an obvious "safe" VP and still managed to blow it.

And anticipating the response: Yes, Biden is far from perfect, but you cannot deny that he knows his shit. Personalities can be kept in check, ignorance cant. Biden plays to a weakness of Obama (lack of foreign policy experience, excess of melanin) and Obama chose perfectly, betting that his personality and leadership will shine over a proven "leader" in Biden.
