If you are as saddened and outraged by the death of Mary Sullivan -- killed last week by Aubry Carlton Miller, Jr. of the 20700 of Old York Road in Parkton -- there is something you can do about it. Step up now to help support her young daughters.
This email came to me through the Hereford Zone Business Association, but it was written by Lynn Jones, a friend of Mary's:
Hello Friends,
This is a sad note to you, as our friend Mary Sullivan was killed yesterday by a reckless driver in a speeding stolen pickup truck that ran off the road and into her bedroom, killing her instantly. A totally freak accident, but one that has scarred many people for the rest of their lives.
Mary was the kind of person most of us wish to become. She wanted to reduce the world's pain and suffering of AIDS and other infectious diseases by working in these fields before most understood how they originated and spread. She moved with her three young daughters to Uganda for years of field research. Once back in Maryland, she continued to work for Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and was greatly admired there for her compassion and contributions to this health field.
Mary moved to Hereford several years ago upon their return from Africa with her wonderful daughters, and decided to make this their permanent home. This family has given so much to our community in such little time, volunteering at the library, excelling in our local schools and generally being immensely bright spots in so many of our lives.
Now that their mother is gone, the girls will be needing some support back from us, their community. Their friends at Hopkins have set up a website, www.marysgirls.org where you can find out how to donate to a fund for their futures. The webblog is www.marypsullivan.blogspot.com where you can read other's thoughts and share your own about this tragedy.
A visitation will be tomorrow, Thursday evening, at Jenkins Funeral Home in Hereford from 6-8PM. The funeral will be held on Friday at 10AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Middletown Rd.
I'll be there tomorrow evening collecting donations, checks made out to 'Mary's Girls'. Other contributions can be mailed to:

I wish to thank you again for your continued support of our great little corner of the world, Northern Baltimore County. We truly are blessed to be a part of this incredibly caring community.
Yours,
Lynne
You can also contact the Baltimore County State's Attorney, Scott Shellenberger, and tell him you expect Aubry Miller -- because of his long criminal record -- to pay the full and absolute penalty for all of his crimes, without plea bargin or nolle prosequi this time. Remind State's Attorney Shellenberger that he stands for election every four years, and voters in Northern Baltimore County have a long memory. You can contact him directly at:
