Al Neuharth tried to make a dumb point that the Beijing Olympics would lead to a more democratic China.

I thoroughly dissected the stupidity of his comments yesterday here.  But I am not done.

Where were the Winter Olympics held in 1984?  Do you remember?  It was Sarajevo, Yugoslavia.  Just five years later, the former Yugoslavia was sliding decisively into rampant civil war, ethnic cleansing, war crimes, and genocide.  By the time I flew over Sarajevo on my way to Istanbul in 1992, there was not much left of the city.  And from 25,000 feet, you could clearly make out the trenches of the siege in that ugly little European Civil War (#3 for the 20th Century).

So, once again, Big Al is full of dookey.  Try again.
