What is Al Neuharth Thinking?

Al Neuharth, the founder of the USA Today, must be slowly losing his mind.  Either that, or he is doing his damndest to play out the role of one of Lenin's "useful idiots".

This is the latest from McAl:

Nazi Germany hosted the Games in Berlin in 1936. Now that country is one of the world's proudest democracies. Communist Moscow was the host city in 1980. Now Russia has moved close to true democracy, although it's not quite there yet.

This is not a prediction that communism will disappear from China quickly. But betcha the Olympic Games will bring 1.3 billion closer to that goal.

Does McAl forget that it was not the Olympics, but a World War that killed over 30 million people that made Germany one of the "world's proudest democracies"?

Or that Moscow had to lose a long and wrong-headed war in Afghanistan -- not to mention the Cold War in general, largely bankrupting what was left of the Soviet Union (at great expense to our own nation, I might add) before they started "moving" toward "true democracy".  Given Russia's rampant and aggressive imperialism in Georgia, I also think they have stepped back a few in the process.

And, I doubt that hosting the Olympics will bring China anywhere near "true democracy".  Or even "fake democracy".  I've been there. Five times.  China is a facist oligarchy that uses capitalism as a way to fund the religion of the state and keep old men in power over a vast empire of poor, unfree, serfs and peasants. 

This is a government that has killed over 30 million of their own people in sixty years.  This is a government that uses famine, murder, and genocide within and without their own borders.  They crush dissent.  Remember June 4, 1989?  That was the day the Communist Party in China decided they could no longer brook peaceful demonstrations by their own people.  On that day alone, they killed over 2600 Chinese (according to the Chinese Red Cross) for peacefully protesting the oppression and corruption of the Politburo and the Party.

One should never confuse their embrace of a thuggish brand of capitalism for an embrace of freedom and democracy.  Their embrace of a mafia-flavored capitalism -- complete with bribes, payoffs, extortion and the like -- was made only after the death of Mao, as a way to attenuate the massive poverty that had inflicted their country for three decades. Even today, what they call capitalism resembles nothing like what we know in the West.  There is no rule of law, no "free market", no respect of copywright or patents, no concept of intellectual property -- or private property of any real notion.  Their brand of capitalism is nothing more than a state-controlled economy feeding dribbles of flexibility to the peasant population below, and protecting an oligarchy of loyal businessman.

The Olympics will not change that.  Indeed, the Olympics will only give the Chinese government the respectability it believes it deserves, by virtue of the fact that it enslaves 17% of the earth's population.  Al Neuharth only feeds the betrayal and deception of the International Olympic Committee.  The IOC has done nothing more than whitewash the blood of innocent Chinese that was spilled to provide the mortar of the Chinese state.  The blood of innocent unborn Chinese that continues to be spilled for more mortar to build that state higher.

Al Neuharth only gives cover to the murderous thugs of the Chinese government that continues to promote human slavery, mysognism, religious oppression, and the hateful destruction of the human soul.
