Good Girls Go to Heaven and Bad Girls Go Everywhere.
Two big stories this week on the good and the bad.
Eighteen (18!) girls at Gloucester High School in Massachusetts apparently set out to have a "pregnancy pact" -- getting pregnant so that they could raise their kids together. Some of these girls are as young as fifteen.
What in the world is going on in this country?
What are parents doing? What are schools doing? Did it not occur to school officials that when 150 girls in your high school show up for pregnancy tests, you might have an issue? In other words, its not time for a frakking committee meeting? Maybe its time TO CALL THE FUCKING PARENTS?
There are two big issues here. The first is parental rights and responsibilities. What are parents doing that their daughters feel so lonely that they want a baby to give their lives purpose? And what are parents doing that their sons think nothing of bumping uglies with 14 and 15 year-old girls without putting on the wetsuit? Who in the hell is raising these kids? Are parents surrendering the moral high ground wholesale? I am not sure who is more pathetic: these eighteen girls and the fathers of their children, or their own parents. It seems their own parents might still be recovering from their own episodic involvement with dope and acid.
The second issue is school culpability. The school system is trying to hide behind patient privacy rights as a reason why they didn't start calling in parents earlier. Sorry, but that dog won't hunt. Contrary to what the baby killers at Planned Parenthood want you to believe, minor children do not possess a right to medical privacy from their parents. Doesn't exist, in any way, shape or form. (People wanting it to exist doesn't make it exist, by the way. And just because the writers on E.R. or House think it does has no impact, either.) Schools will waste no time in letting you know your kid has lice. Do they think the fact that your kid showed up for a pregnancy test is less important?
The people who run the Glouster school district and the parents of these kids should be rounded up and beat mercilessly about the head with a crow bar.
The second story is about a research article in New Scientist that makes me want to go, "No shit, Sherlock? Who told you first, Dick Tracey? Just one more question, Columbo?" It turns out that NICE GUYS REALLY DO FINISH LAST. That's right, women love the bad boy. The love the boys with the "dark triad", a series of personality traits that women apparently find immensely attractive:
The traits are the self-obsession of narcissism; the impulsive, thrill-seeking and callous behaviour of psychopaths; and the deceitful and exploitative nature of Machiavellianism.
Umm, yeah. When I read that, I thought it was an article on the Bill Clinton Years. Now we know why Bill Clinton was America's first Astronaut President: he got all the Tang he wanted.
So the next time you hear women bitching and complaining about how all they want is a "kind, considerate, loving man who treats them right", be sure to put your hand over your mouth and "cough" out "BULLSHIT". Because it is. And I have more proof: Six seasons of Sex and the City. Plus a damn movie.
