A crisis is brewing Salisbury. It turns out the city is SOOO broke, it cannot afford to take ownership of half of the Government Office Building it shares with Wicomico County Government.  It cannot even contribute to the upkeep of the building -- including replacement of the boiler.

What to do?

Simple.  Abolish Salisbury City Government, which requires only a simple majority vote of the City Council.  In one fell swoop, the city could solve a myriad of problems, including:

• An ineffectual and poorly led police department incapable of enfocing simple laws against nuisance crimes like graffiti, much less the bigger crimes like murder and assault.
• A poorly run zoo that has gone from somewhere around 500 animals to 100 animals in a little under 5 years, and is so incompetent at fundraising, it makes the Girl Scouts and their cookies look like Donald Trump.
• A fire department whose internal fighting makes the Sunni-Shia battles in Baghdad look like WWE Raw. (That's professional wrestling for those of you from the City Bistro set.)
• Give Joe Albero a whole new set of politicians to harangue and follow and take pictures of their legs.  I haven't seen Councilwoman Gail Barkovitch since high school (I was a year or two ahead of her son John), but she had nice gams back then.
• Combine a stupid duplication of services and trim the overall costs of delivering basic services to both the citizens of Salisbury and Wicomico county in general.
• Stop the ridiculous practice of annexation to increase the city's tax base.

I've said it before, and I will say it again:  The City of Salisbury does not require a separate municipal government.  It has neither the means to raise revenue NOR the competence of leadership to do the job.

Abolish it now.  Save the people money.  Give them leadership that works.
