No matter who wins in November – either Senator John McCain or Senator Barack Obama – liberty and freedom will be at peril in this nation. While these two senators have very divergent views on the War Against Islamic Fascism and foreign affairs in general, their domestic views display very little sunlight between them.
My Republican friends will not be happy to hear this, and will cry out loud that I am very wrong. They will claim that John McCain is in favor of keeping the so-called “Bush Tax Cuts” while Barack is not. They will claim that John McCain would not double the capital gains tax, while Barack Obama will. They will claim that John McCain believes in cutting government spending and reigning in earmarks while Barack Obama doesn’t. They will point out John McCain works to fight corruption in government, while Barack Obama is just a little too cozy with characters like newly-convicted Tony Reszko.
But I am not talking about specific policies. I am talking about values and views. And neither John McCain nor Barack Obama are strong believers in limited government, liberty, and freedom.
Barack Obama would go on an industry-destroying rampage sucking at the teat of environmentalist wacko-fascists, who are convinced of the infallibility of their poorly constructed computer models even as all revealed evidence says that if climate change is occurring, there is at worst precious little we can do about it and at best, precious little we did to start it.
Oh, wait. That is John McCain’s position, too.
Barack Obama would place government at the center of nearly every decision we make, from healthcare to energy to education to groceries to the temperature of our living rooms. His Democrat predecessor already made great strides in determining how our toilets flush and how we do our laundry.
John McCain would place government at the very center of nearly every decision, too… in Rooseveltian fashion, he would limit our freedom of speech; he would dictate what “excessive profits” are; he would continue the invasion of parental rights that is No Child Left Behind. He would not undo the excesses of the last thirty years that saw the massive expansion of Federal power to the detriment of our individual rights.
How do I know this?
What in God’s name have either one of them done in the Senate to the contrary? Did John McCain ever filibuster a spending bill? No, instead, playing the role of “maverick”, he signed on with liberal fascists to pervert the judicial nominating process. Did he ever make an outright stand on the Senate floor for US citizens? No, if he had his way he would open every border and grant amnesty to any illegal alien. He claims he would appoint justices like Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito, but what if those justices saw McCain-Feingold as unconstitutional?
While the fascist left has been throwing hissy fits about executive power, it has been Congressional power – the combined fascism of 535 tyrants – that has been grinding our individual rights to dust for the benefit of the power class in Washington.
What have Barack Obama or John McCain done to fight against that?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Because to both of them, after a lifetime in government, they believe that government is the answer to every problem, every challenge, every risk.
They forget the warning that a government that is big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take it all away.
And that is why our liberty is in peril.
