Over at Mahmoud Albero's cyberterrorism headquarters, he is all excited because the Powellville Volunteer Fire Departmet allowed him to pariticipate in a live fire training exercise. There is just one problem: they may have violated NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) Standard 1403: Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions.
TomCat points this out on his blog "A Class Act".
You can read the full specification here.
But let me summarize the important part of the standard:
4.1 Student Prerequisites.
4.1.1* Prior to being permitted to participate in live fire training
evolutions, the student shall have received training to
meet the job performance requirements for Fire Fighter I in
NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications,
related to the following subjects:
(1) Safety
(2) Fire behavior
(3) Portable extinguishers
(4) Personal protective equipment
(5) Ladders
(6) Fire hose, appliances, and streams
1403–4 LIVE FIRE TRAINING EVOLUTIONS
2002 Edition
(7) Overhaul
(8) Water supply
(9) Ventilation
(10) Forcible entry
4.1.2* Students participating in a live fire training evolution
who received the required minimum training specified in
4.1.1 from other than the authority having jurisdiction shall
present written evidence of having successfully completed the
prescribed training prior to being permitted to participate in
any live fire training evolution.
I believe it is safe to say that, while Mahmoud Albero claims to have done a lot of things in his life, completing the Fire Fighter 1 training course in ANY JURISDICTION is not one of them.
Therefore, by allowing Mahmoud to participate, the Powellville Volunteer Fire Department has violated one of the most important training safety codes for firefighters in the United States.
When this happened in Baltimore City last year -- and a cadet died -- it cost the Chief his job, and several Assistant Chiefs there posts.
What will it cost Powellville?
