The People's Republic of China -- that nation that holds a seat on the UN Security Council despite having killed over 40 million captives citizens during the cultural revolution -- needs to step up and do the right thing in Myanmar.  The military junta in Myanmar, every bit as cruel and repressive as Communist China under Mao, is causing a natural catastrophe to become a man-made human catastrophe because of their incredible capacity for evil, and China needs to step up now to stop or pay an extreme penalty.

Myanmar has been seizing UN relief aid, and has refused American flights to enter the country.  It's estimated that without this aid -- and the aid workers to go with it -- the death toll will far exceed 100,000 and possibly eclipse the Indonesian Tsunami.  The simple fact is that only the United States Military has the heavy air and sea-lift capabilities to render this type of aid.  The longer that the xeonophobic junta waits before our allowing us to do what we do best -- saving lives and helping nations in distress -- the more blood will be on their hands.  Innocent blood.

AND THAT IS FRAKKING UNACCEPTABLE.

China could exert an incredible amount of pressure, since they are the protectors of the junta.  It's only through Chinese money and military aid that the junta survives.  And it's time to pull some of those puppet strings to save the lives of millions of Burmese.

But if China cannot find it in its realm to do the right thing and to force the junta to allow the nations of the world to help save Burmese lives, then China should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.  This is a matter of political leadership, and its time all of our leaders in the United States come together to show they have a pair.

If China refuses to "yank the leash", the President and the Congress should do the following:

  • Demand that the UN Security Council issue a resolution condemning the Myanmar junta and institute a naval and air blockade of the nation.
  • Request that the Chinese Ambassador to the United States be "recalled for consultations", or risk being expelled.  And, if the Chinese want him expelled, notify them that we will not except any credentials for a replacement.
  • Inform the Chinese that EVERY container of goods traversing a port in the United States will be quarantined for a minimum of thirty days.
  • Inform the Chinese that EVERY technology sale or transfer to a Chinese-owned company or a subsidiary of an American company will undergo a 180 "National Security Review".
  • Immediately cease and desist issuing visas to Chinese nationals travelling to the United States.
  • If necessary, withdraw US athletes from the Beijing games AND use the power of the FCC -- as arbiter of US airwaves -- to limit over-the-air broadcasts of Olympic events in the United States during the games.

People are dying Myanmar for no other reason that group of pencil-dick tyrants are trying to preserve their hold on power.  They are nothing more than a second-rate, two-bit group of thugs.  As a member of the UN Security Council -- and as Myanmar's patron -- they have a moral responsibility to step in and make Myanmar comply.

If China doesn't, we should bring the house down on them.
