This is a question without a simple answer. But it comes to mind this evening as I review a comment by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) (Note: The "D" here stands for "dumbass" or "doofus").
Senator Reid's offensive quote: "The Founding Fathers would be cringing to hear people talking about eliminating earmarks."
Let us all now bow our heads in prayer and thank God that Harry Reid is not a history teacher.
The simple fact is that the Founding Fathers would be sickened, repulsed, and horrified by the degree to which the United States has insinuated itself into the freedom and liberty of Americans on a daily basis through the whorish process of earmarking. Were they not waiting for a more significant and important Resurrection, they would rise up out of their graves and in a thundering and horrifying voice bellow "Cease your despicable and horrifying conduct, performed in the name of the American people, against the American people, by their chosen representatives, you senseless and ungainly reprobates."
Were Mr. Reid familiar with actual American History, and the not the Alice in Wonderland version he obviously believes in, he would realize that the Founding Fathers were most definitely concerned about the use of the people's treasury in such a fashion.
They were so concerned, in fact, that they create a bicameral legislature to guard against such whorish pandering and vote buying. You see, the Senate was originally constructed to represent the interests of the state governments (and not the people). This is why each state is granted two senators, regardless of size, wealth or other metric. This was why Senators -- until the 17th Amendment -- were not popularly elected.
Of course, that all changed with th 17th Amendment. And thus was ushered in the era of modern whoring of the so-called "world's most deliberative body".
Because a deliberative Senator can buy votes just as easily as member of the House of Representatives. Just ask Ted Stevens.
Harry Reid is obviously an uneducated twit, without the common sense that God gives turnips. If he is the best that Nevada can send to the Senate, we might be better with only 49 states.
