Apparently, Harvard is all into the segregation thing now, according to the Daily Free Press. It turns out that Muslim women on campus are "uncomfortable" using the student gym facilities when men are present, so Harvard is setting up separate times based on gender for use of the facilities. This discomfort is apparently based on some religious principle.
Yes, sexual discrimination is alive and well at one of America's oldest and most venerated educational institutions.
One must ask the question: "Where does this stop?"
If Muslims don't want Jews to use the gym at the same time, do we allow that? If Muslims want the dining facilities on campus to stop serving pork, do we stop serving the other white meat? If Muslims feel uncomfortable because a student religious group is singing hymns, do we ban that? If Harvard Catholics are praying a Hail Mary in the Quad, and a Muslim is offended, does that little piece of property get parceled out to?
Tolerance is one thing. Religious tolerance is not interfering with an individual's free exercise of their religion, and respecting their right to make choices in their faith. But it is decidedly intolerant when accomodations restrict the rights of students on campus to use facilities at a time of their choosing and convenience based solely on another student's religious discomfort.
Just like Muslim cabbies at the Twin Cities airports who won't take passengers carrying alcohol, these levels of accomodation go far beyond tolerance. They are slow slouch toward Gomorrah, where America finally becomes a much larger, and much worse, version of Londonistan. These small maneuvers are a incrementalist approach that begins by applying the principles of Sharia, in anticipation of applying the law of Sharia. Radical Islam uses moderate Muslims to incrementally advance their cause. They understand that you defeat a civilization not in great battles, but in small ones.
It's a shame that some of our most venerated institutions don't realize that what once made them great is being taken away brick by brick. Act by act. Policy by Policy.
Maybe George Wallace was right. Maybe our future is "Segregation Now! Segregation Tomorrow! Segregation Forever!"
The future is now at Harvard University.
