Does Mike Huckabee hate free speech? I think he just might. This is what Huckabee had to say about push polls made on his behalf:
I personally wish that all of this was outlawed. I think that every candidates should speak for themselves, and that every thing that involves the candidate's name or another candidate's name should be authorized and approved by that candidate, otherwise it shouldn't be spoken....
Hmmm... let's look at what our Constitution says.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Now, Mike Huckabee is running for President. And thanks to teachers like Cindy Bennett, Collen Dallam, and George Landes during my years at Parkside, I am well acquainted with the Presidential Oath of Office:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
So I am left wondering... is Mike Huckabee pushing for yet another amendment -- this time to outlaw political speech he doesn't like? No wonder he says he believes in a living, growing Constitution. He wants it to live and grow like a weed.
I wonder what Ol' Mike would say if we outlawed any Christian who said anything that wasn't approved by God? How would he feel about that?
