Remember the O'Great O'Campaign O'Promises of 2006, when O'Guvnah promised that he was going to "straighten out" the Public Service Commission and get electricity rates back "under control"?

How's that working so far?  Not so well, as the Calvert Street Communist Party Newsletter has uncovered the newest Public Service Commission Scam.

Let's be clear:  unlike the school board, these are not Ehrlich appointees.  These are appointees of Marty O'Guvnah O'Malley.  These are his liberal, leftist, big government types that are allowing a surcharge to our electric bills to subsidize the sales of Compact Flourescent light bulbs by Big Box retailers.

That's right. We don't even get free CFLs out of this deal.  If you live in the BGE area, you need to drive to BALTIMORE CITY to purchase these "subsidized" bulbs.  What's worse?  The bulbs they are offering aren't even the best of the bulbs out there on the market, and are sold at still higher prices than you can purchase them at retailers like Wal-Mart.

In fact, I can buy the same bulbs at the Wal-Mart in Shrewsbury for about fifty cents less a bulb than I can at COSTCO or Home Depot in Baltimore.

What's up with that?

What is it about Irish politicians loving to fund big business?  If CFL's are such a great deal (in terms of both longevity and cost of electricity), then you would think that everyone would be rushing out to buy them.

But CFLs and ceiling fan lights don't work well.  Ceiling-mounted lights don't have the clearance.  Numerous table lamps use smaller bulbs than you can get with CFLs.  And CFLs won't work in refrigerators -- and you should NEVER use one in an oven (if you can find one to fit).

But everyone on the left, including O'Guvnah and his brothel stock on the PSC, have jumped on the CFL bandwagon as the way to save on the cost of electricity in Maryland. More importantly, they hope it will drop consumption, since the PSC has failed for thirty years to plan adequately for our generation needs.  By 2012, because of their lack of public service, we will be looking at rolling blackouts.

But they ignore some simple facts about CFLS:

  • Very bad for low-vision users like the elderly and those with low-vision issues.
  • Can't be used in appliance applications, and a number of household applications (mentioned above).
  • Contain mercury, so they cannot be disposed of in your normal garbage. Ever try to dispose of electronics at the Baltimore County landfill in Cockeysville?  Have fun.
  • Switching to all CFL usage will take jobs and money out of the hands of American workers, as CFLs are produced overseas, not in the US.

And on top of all that, O'Guvnah broke his promises to fix the cost of electricity, and has made it worse.

O'Guvnah doesn't need to date hot television reporters anymore.  He's got the rest of us to frack over.
