I don't want to direct all my fire at O'Guvnah.  You see, like Sauron, he has his own dark servants.  In this case, I am talking about the county executives and municipal leaders and mayors who cozied up to O'Guvnah at the expense of their own constituents.

In particular, I have two in my sights:  Mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman of Salisbury and County Executive Ricky Pollitt of Wicomico County, Maryland.

Why these two?  Simple:  Del. Norman Conway, powerful chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, represents areas in both Salisbury and Wicomico County.  If any two people in this state could impact the future of this single powerful politician, it is these two.

Yet, they constantly fail to hold him accountable for his votes. As a result, Salisbury University continues to remove more and more property from the city (and county) tax rolls .

And now, with increases in both the gas tax and sales tax, the one thriving part of the lower shore's economy-- retail -- will take a drastic hit.  Why?  Because those businesses will be lured by an agressive state effort in Delaware to bring that business just over the state line into Delmar and Laurel.

Thanks, Norm Conway, for sinking the one strong part of the lower shore economy.

No, this time, Mayor Barrie and Slick Ricky (H/T: Duvafiles) decided to side with the state teat, which they are so dependent on.  You see, when you are a politician, "robbing Peter to pay Paul" isn't a cliche, it is a way of life.  Like a blackjack dealer in Vegas, you are constantly shuffling the shoe to keep the hands fresh.  If your constituents can count the cards, the house always wins.

And that is the real crime in this whole little episode in Wicomico County. By trumpeting the importance of state aid dollars, Mayor Barrie and Slick Ricky don't want the citizens of Wicomico County and Salisbury to realize that it is still their tax money. Both act as if there is some magical pot of gold in Annapolis that Peter Franchot can dip into to keep handing out to the counties and municipalities.

And so they encourage Norm "Double Dipper Conway" to sell out his constituents to preserve his seat on the Appropriations committee.

Wonderful.  Makes me long for the days of "no lo contedre".
