I got a special delivery package from MWSAIS (Militant Wing of the Salvation Army Intelligence Service) this afternoon wrapped around three Montecristo #2s* that I thought would be of interest to my fellow Marylanders.
It turns out that the "special session" being predicted by WaPo and The Calvert Street Communist Party Newsletter is more wishful thinking on the part of the Guvnah than a real plan. The Speaker of the House-- not typically well-regarded by this blogger -- is very opposed to the notion of a special session, and is backed up by most of his members. This includes Republicans and Democrats.
Why? Well, most remember the special sessions for Medicare (2004) and BGE (2006) and how useless they were, and no one wants to go anywhere near that.
There is also a fair deal of resentment toward the Guvnah for not providing more visionary and aggressive leadership to address the problem forthrightly. The Guvnah is losing this battle with the General Assembly because his administration seems to be out of sorts with a single, unified plan. The most repeated word in the secret message -- again, encoded using every 15,000th word in Chesapeake -- was "disappointed".
I'll keep everyone up to date.
* The first person that writes to me why the MWSAIS would choose to send their secret message wrapped around three cigars today can redeem their prize Friday evening at City Bistro on Salisbury's Plaza-- a top shelf drink of their choice. Send me your (real) name and email address to blog@gunpowderchronicle.com. Note: Delaware residents not eligible for this prize.
