On Tuesday, we conservatives got a lecture and a kick to the curb from President George W. Bush, who is only still in office because we stood by him trying to do what's right for America.

And now he dares to shunt us aside like Bill Clinton's last girlfriend?

In Georgia, President Bush had this to say on Tuesday:

This reform is complex. There's a lot of emotions around this issue. Convictions run deep. Those determined to find fault with this bill will always be able to look at a narrow slice of it and find something they don't like. If you want to kill the bill, if you don't want to do what's right for America, you can pick one little aspect out of it, you can use it to frighten people. Or you can show leadership and solve this problem once and for all.
I expect the President of the United States to fulfill his oath, which is to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."  That means, Mr. President, faithfully executing the laws enacted by Congress and signed by you and your predecessors.  That means, Mr. President, enforcing the immigration laws already on the books.  Laws you have not enforced in your six years in office.

The problem with immigration is not that it is unsolvable, but that the Federal Government and its officials -- elected, appointed, and hired -- have refused to do anything about it.

This is nothing new with you.  The Government refused to effectively prosecute corrupt elected officials.  Sometimes, you even have refused to even investigate.  Prime example:  The Keating Five Scandal.  What do you do?  Pass an unconsitutional law that limits the free speech rights of citizens because you are afraid to hold elected officials feet to their fire.

You refused to hold local school systems accountable for performance in their spending of Federal dollars. Laws already on the books.  So what is your solution?  Partner with your favorite murdering senator, the Senator from Chivas Regal to pass the largest expansion of Federal spending in education in the history of the country-- not to mention the largest interference in state and local perogatives -- and gives us a horrendous law in No Child Left Behind that is a pure laughingstock.

Then, not to be stopped by violating the First Amendment and the Tenth Amendment, you go for a huge power grab in the Medicare Part D law, creating a program that will quite literally send the United States into massive default in less than two generations -- if not sooner.

Now you question the outright patriotism of conservatives by claiming we don't care about America because we expect you to enforce current law?  Because we expect you to defend the unique culture of America?  Because we expect you to actual treat people who break the law like criminals?

You have, with this immigration proposal, accomplished the one thing that none of my liberal friends or any other Democrats have ever been able to accomplish:  I am ashamed to have voted for you twice.  I mean, I regret those votes.  Seriously, I wish I had not voted at all.

You have managed to really screw up what should have been a simple, straightforward war.   You refuse to exercise approapirate authority as Commander-In-Chief and relive officers who aren't getting the job done.  You worry too much about "winning hearts and minds" and too little about "winning the war".

You let Syria and Iran flip us the bird at every chance they get.  Have you forgotten that both have committed acts of war against us over the last thirty years?  Remember the US Embassy in Iran?  Or Beiruit?  How about the Marine Barracks?

Then there is the State Department.  No matter who you put in there, the State Department feels their job is to to represent the world to us, instead of us to the world.  They don't project American policy; they fight it.  And you let it continue.

You even let officials from past administrations take a huge crap on your desk.  Sandy Berger gets a plea bargain?  For stealing and destroying classified documents from the National Archives?  Who in the hell is telling you this was a good idea?

I think Jimmy Carter is wrong.  You are not the worst president we have ever had.  No, he holds that honor.  But you are quickly following up for a close second.  A very close second.

Conservatives have stood by you through thick and thin because we did care about America.  We got you elected.  We got you re-elected.  You have appointed two justices to the Supreme Court because of conservative mobilization. And now you spit on us.

We Mr. President, you can go hell, because you have lost my support now. You have nothing but my emnity.  And my vitriol will make Cindy Sheehan look like Mrs. Cleaver by comparison.

A bit late coming, but a welcome riposte nonetheless. I felt the same way - first after No Child Left Behind, then again after the decision to go into Iraq with one hand tied behind our back (I still think going in at all was a big mistake - I felt that way BEFORE we went, not after it became what it is today!)
Because of Bush's reneg on his year 2000 campaign promises (no nation-building, limited gov't, etc.), I voted Libertarian in 2004.
Ron Paul will likely be the LAST Republican I vote for for President for some time!

So I know how you feel being kicked to the curb after the support you've given the president, but face it, the kicking began 5 years ago - you just reached your last straw quite a bit later than I did!
