Imagine my surprise this last Thursday evening when all of sudden, my little old farm house up here on York Road was lit up like a carnival ride from the lights of the Baltimore County Police department.
I had not heard any sirens, and I immediately sprang up, thinking the barns were on fire. They weren't.
So I pulled on the shoes and ran out the back door to be meeted by SEVEN Baltimore County cruisers. We don't get met by that much law enforcement when the Sparks Bank in Maryland Line is robbed, so I knew something was up.
Turns out that a couple was driving north on York Road when they were passed by a Ford pickup with Pennsylvania tags. The pick up truck then started doing this "slow-down, speed up, slow-down" thing. Finally, in front of my house, he decided to nail the breaks a little too hard. The couple in the mini-van rear-ended the truck.
It wasn't too bad-- basically his ball hitch punctured the front end fiberglass. Not a lot of damage. No damage to the truck.
But the driver got out, started yelling, and was obviously drunk. He then pulled a .357 Magnum from the truck and started waving it around.
And thus, that is how the police came to be outside my house.
It turns out that the driver of the pickup was drunk (he had been drinking at the Parke Inn) and did not have a permit for the gun. So he got shuttled off to jail, and his truck impounded.
But York Road was closed for about an hour as the mess was cleaned up and all the towing took place.
