Imagine my surprise this morning when I log on to baltimoresun.com, and I read a well-balanced and informative article on the Governor's plan to increase Medicaid funding for adults.  As I read Andy Greene's article, I thought I had stepped into the twilight zone.

I've become so used to the reporters at The Sun parroting the Democrat Party line that I had taken to calling the paper the "Calvert Street Communist Party Newsletter".  But this article was fair, balanced, and informative.  Andy Greene even went out of his way to call the Heritage Foundation!

Apparently he hasn't gotten the memo, and I hope he never does.  The Baltimore Sun needs this kind of reporter if they want to survive.

As for the Guvnah's desire to increase Medicaid funding for adults, it is very clear that he doesn't understand the problem.  The problem is not the availability of health care, it is the affordability of health insurance. Health insurance is so expensive because the coverage requirements for any policy in the state of Maryland are SO high.  On top of that, health insurance companies in Maryland have a virtual monopoly, as I can't go to Pennsylvania to buy my health insurance.

The primary problem with the affordability of health insurance is that it is an industry dominated by a socialist worldview.  There is no competition in health insurance like we have in grocery stores, or car repair, or consumer electronics.  Your doctor is dictated by your health insurance plan. Your health insurance plan is dictated by your employer.  Your employer is incentivized to provide health insurance through the Federal tax code.  Why shouldn't you as an employee get the incentive for purchasing health insurance?

There do need to be changes in health insurance.  Raising taxes and spending more money are not the ways to do it.

Thanks Andy Green for giving voice to some alternate ideas.
