What's up With Pat van den Beemt? In my previous post, I detailed how Pat van den Beemt failed to ask some crucial questions and challenge some statements by the Hereford Volunteer Ambulance Association.
Going back through the archive, I notice she bought the story from Maryland Line VFD hook, line and sinker, too.
According to this story written by van den Beemt in the 7/11/07 edition of the North County News, the new station "will not include a fire hall or kitchen. The new station will include a training room for 50 people, a ready room with a small kitchen, a living room and bathrooms with showers, however."
However, I am told by several people who have a chance to tour the new facility that there is in fact a large, full-service kitchen with room to seat 25-50 people for carryout meals.
Did van den Beemt even tour the new facility? I don't think so. I think we are seeing what we used to call in my high school journalism classes press-release journalism. I realize the North County news is free, but can't the advertisers at least get their money's worth?
