The NAACP has decided, yet again, to abandon its storied past to whore for the nation's union bosses and the Democrat Party by boldly stepping out and endorsing the Employee Free Choice Act.  For those of you who don't know, the Employee Free Choice Act abandons a bedrock principle of our republic by abandoning the secret ballot in union authorization campaigns.  The secret ballot was also a key part of the century-long battle to give black men and women the right to vote.

While Barack Obama and his army of liberal fascists trumpet the virtues of "card check" union organization -- which effectively removes the secret ballot from union organizing activites -- that same army of liberal fascists will be able to hide behind a secret ballot in the caucus meeting tomorrow to vote on the fate of Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman for his aggressive support of John S. McCain.

Maryland's Light Rail is William Donald Schaefer's Great White Elephant that continues to fail.  According to the Baltimore Sun, the MTA is closing light rail between North Ave and Hunt Valley, and restricting service south of North Ave to single car trains, due to even more problems with the wheels.  When will anyone in Soddom on the Severn realize that a) there is nothing "light" in Light Rail and b) this project has been an abject failure from the beginning.

Today's Calvert Street Fish Wrapper provides proof positive of why the Baltimore Sun -- and the rest of the Tribune Company -- is failing miserably as a new organization.  The reprinted a McClatchey-Tribune report on how climate change is pushing countries beyond the brink of war.  Titled Changing climate may push more countries past the brink of war, the article should be taught in every rhetoric class as the perfect example of the fallacy of the Latin phrase Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

Word is now out that Baltimore Mayor Sheila Pratt Dixon is ordering across the board departmental budget cuts by an average of 12.9% next year, and that these reductions will most likely mean a reduction in city services. My question would be:  Will anyone notice?

According to the BlogNetNews ranking system (which I really don't understand), The Gunpowder Chronicle moved up to the 4th slot this week in the BlogNetNews rankings for Maryland Blogs.  I want to thank everyone that comes to the site to read and perouse my ramblings-- even when you don't agree with me.  Of course, this was made even more special, because Sebaceous Puss -- despite his often claimed/never verified hundreds of thousands of hits and thousands of commenters -- dropped to 6th this week.

There is one question that no one seems to want to answer -- and no member of the press dare ask -- about what happens if The One is actually able to force through a massive new socialized health insurance program through Congress over the next four years:  If we suddenly have 40 million new patients seeking healthcare, who will take care of them?

I want to make one thing clear:  if the Government of the United States of America decides to provide a bailout to "Old Detroit", I will NEVER purchase another product made by Ford, General Motors, or Chrysler ever again in my life.  And given my relatively young age of 37, that probably means at least another 4-5 vehicles of the course of my lifetime.  I wouldn't take a product from any of those three if you gave it to me for free if you pass this bailout.  Because this liberal fascist bailout fantasy -- and this is fascism in its purest, most academic form -- will do absolutely nothing to fix the endemic structural defects of those three companies.  And what is worse, every politician from the UP to Anacostia Flats knows it.

This post will probably lose me my membership in the "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy", but that's okay, because the meetings have been pretty boring lately.  I would like for someone -- anyone -- to explain to me why the government should have any say in marriage at all?

The Gunpowder Chronicle sends a big shout out and "Thank You" to Harford County District Judge Victor Butanis.  Judge Butanis, showing some common sense and practicality rarely seen on Maryland's bench these days, denied bail to Glen Arm's notorious Christopher Lentz, who killed two people on  the Bel Air Bypass last week.  Butanis ruled that Lentz remains a threat.  This was an altogether reasonable determination, given the fact that he had fled the scene of an accident not 90 minutes before killing a mother of two and her son.
